Keeping the driving training record digitally (Anlage 3 DV-FahrlG)
The training record (Ausbildungsnachweis) is the file of a learner's driver training in Germany: for every learner and every licence class it records which theory lessons and which driving lessons they had, when, and with which instructor. It is based on § 6 of the driving-training ordinance (FahrschAusbO) and the model form in Anlage 3 of the implementing ordinance to the Driving Instructors Act (DV-FahrlG). Many driving schools still keep it as a paper card. This guide shows which fields belong in it, what keeping it digitally allows, and how the record can come straight from the calendar instead of being copied out every evening. Rules as of 18 October 2026.
The fields for every theory lesson
Anlage 3 DV-FahrlG distinguishes between theory and practice. For each theory lesson, four details are recorded:
- Date (Datum) of the lesson
- Topic (Thema) — which topic of the basic or class-specific material was covered
- Minutes (Minuten) the lesson lasted
- FL-Nr. — the licence number of the driving instructor who taught it
The fields for every driving lesson
For practical training one more detail is added: the start time (Beginn). For each driving lesson the record shows date, type (Art), start, minutes and FL-Nr.
The type is entered as a code:
- Üst — practice lesson (Übungsstunde)
- Gf — basic driving manoeuvres (Grundfahraufgaben)
- Uw — instruction on the vehicle (Unterweisung am Fahrzeug)
- SN — manual-transmission proof (Schaltnachweis)
- UL — rural-road drive (Überlandfahrt)
- AB — motorway drive (Autobahnfahrt)
- NF — night drive (Nachtfahrt)
One record per licence class
The training record is kept per licence class. A learner doing B and A at the same time has two records. The basic theory material is at least 12 double lessons of 90 minutes, six if the learner already holds a licence. On top comes the class-specific material: two double lessons for B, four for A, A1 and A2.
The special training drives depend on the class too. For B they are five rural-road, four motorway and three night drives of 45 minutes each; class AM has none. To keep track during training you therefore need, per class, a list of what is done and what is still open.
What keeping it digitally allows
The model in Anlage 3 is a form, not an obligation to use paper. Deviations from the model are allowed when the record is produced by machine — that is, with software. Electronic signature and electronic delivery to the learner are permitted as well.
In practice, keeping the record digitally mostly means this: the entries come from the appointments that are in the calendar anyway, not from a second handwritten copy. The calendar already knows the date, start and duration. Only the topic and the FL-Nr. are missing, and both can be stored on the appointment and on the instructor.
Whether the form you choose is sufficient in a given case is for the competent authority to judge. This guide describes the rules; it is not legal advice.
Signing, school changes, deletion
The rules also cover three moments after the training itself:
- Signing — after the training, the driving school and the learner sign the record.
- School change — if a learner changes driving school, the completed parts of the training are confirmed.
- Deletion — the data is deleted five years after the training ends. So note the end date of every training.
How the record is produced in Timeplanned
In Timeplanned the training record is not a separate form but a printout of the appointments. Each instructor enters their FL-Nr. in their profile. Each theory evening carries its topic from the rotation, each driving lesson its type, such as UL or NF. As soon as you have marked attendance, the appointment is on the record.
On the learner's page you see, per class, which theory topics and which special drives are still missing, and the learner or their parents see the same progress in the portal. With one tap you download the training record as a PDF: a theory table with date, topic, minutes and FL-Nr., a driving table with date, type, start, minutes and FL-Nr., one record per class, in your driving school's language. Cancelled appointments are not on it.
You collect the learner's signature electronically: open the record on your screen, the learner signs with a finger or a pen, and the signature and its date print on the PDF. What Timeplanned does not do yet: the school's own signature still goes on the printout. On a school change you print the completed parts and confirm them with a signature. And for now you track the deletion five years after the end of training yourself. How the record fits together with booking, the cancellation fee and the monthly invoice is shown on Timeplanned for driving schools. You can try it free for 60 days.
Try it on your own schedule
Timeplanned turns attendance into finished month-end billing automatically. Free for 60 days, no credit card required.
Start free trialTraining record: common questions
- May a German driving school keep the training record digitally?
- Yes. Anlage 3 DV-FahrlG sets a model form but allows deviations when the record is produced by machine. Electronic signature and electronic delivery to the learner are permitted too (as of October 2026). Whether your form is sufficient in a given case is for the competent authority to judge.
- What does the training record show for a driving lesson?
- For each driving lesson the record shows the date, type, start, minutes and the instructor's FL-Nr. The type is a code: Üst for a practice lesson, Gf for basic manoeuvres, Uw for instruction on the vehicle, SN for the manual-transmission proof, and UL, AB and NF for rural-road, motorway and night drives.
- Who signs the training record?
- After the training, the driving school and the learner sign it. The signature may be electronic. If the learner changes driving school, the completed parts are confirmed.
- How long is the training record data kept?
- The data is deleted five years after the training ends. Record when each learner's training ended so you can keep track of the deadline.
